✨Rise & Shine: Job Searching Feels Like Sales (Here's How to Keep Things in Perspective)
Good Morning Friends,
Happy Labor Day! While most people think of today as barbecues and back-to-school sales, the heart of the holiday is about honoring the value of work.
And let’s be real, if you’re job searching, that “work” can feel like a full-time job on its own.
Here’s the truth though… job searching is a lot like sales.
I know this first-hand. My husband of 15 years has been in Sales a long time, and I’ve managed a Sales team before. Trust me when I say: the highs are high, the lows are low, and the rollercoaster is real. 🎢
You wake up asking...is this going to be a good day? Or a bad day?
One month you’re closing deals and ringing the bell. The next, you’re staring at your phone like, “Did everyone forget I exist?”
Sound familiar?
Yep. That’s also the job search.
🔄 The Job Search & Sales Rollercoaster
-
In Sales: You send 100 emails. Maybe 5 people reply. 1 becomes a customer.
-
In Job Search: You apply to 100 roles. Maybe 5 turn into interviews. 1 turns into an offer.
-
In Sales: The “no’s” aren’t personal. They’re about timing, budget, or fit.
-
In Job Search: The “no’s” aren’t personal either. They’re about alignment, internal candidates, or shifting priorities.
-
In Sales: The best reps don’t just “spray and pray.” They’re intentional with their outreach.
-
In Job Search: The best candidates don’t just mass apply. They’re targeted, strategic, and focused.
Sound familiar to interviewing? Or trying to interview?? 🫣
❤️ My Takeaway for You
On this Labor Day, I want you to remember:
👉 Your labor is valuable.
👉 Rejection doesn’t define your worth.
👉 The “no” you’re staring at today might just turn into a “yes” tomorrow.
But only if you keep showing up. So let go of the limiting beliefs that have been taking up real estate in your head and keep moving forward because you only need ONE "YES".
That’s the difference between flinging darts at the wall… and intentionally aiming at the bullseye. 🎯
🚀 Your Action Step
Ask yourself:
-
Am I treating my job search like sales? With a funnel, strategy, and consistent follow-up?
-
Or am I sitting in the lows, with no strategy, forgetting that one “yes” can change everything?
This week, give yourself permission to step back and look at the process instead of just the result. If Sales has taught me anything, it’s that persistence pays off.
So if you’re in the grind right now, don’t give up. Your “yes” is closer than you think.
Wishing you rest, BBQ, and maybe even a little clarity this Labor Day. 💛
To your career breakthrough,
💛 Alyssa
